Based on the Global Collection 2024, HundrED has identified several key trends in education innovation:

  1. Edtech & Artificial Intelligence: In this year’s collection, we showcase 22 EdTech innovations and four AI innovations, making up over a quarter of the selected innovations. The EdTech sector is expanding at a rapid rate, especially as the use of technology can be a cost-effective way to bridge barriers to access. AI will arguably be the biggest shift in education innovation in 2023 with increasing opportunities to use AI in education also leading to many potential challenges.
  2. Developing Teacher Agency: Thirteen innovations in this year’s collection focus on Professional Development. Developing teacher agency is important if we want teachers to feel empowered and take ownership of their own professional development.
  3. Future Skills: Innovations focusing on 21st century skills, ICT and Preparedness, make up thirteen of the innovations this year. These innovations are working hard to ensure students have the best possible opportunities to develop skills that will help them adapt to an ever-changing world.
  4. Inclusivity & Wellbeing: There were ten innovations in each of these categories. Innovations working on inclusivity focus on gender equality, bullying prevention, student voice and agency, rural education, displaced children, special education, and diversity. Innovations working on wellbeing focus on mental health, self-esteem, compassion, physical health, mindfulness and learning environments.

Selection Process

In this year’s collection, a shortlist of innovations was reviewed by 182 Academy Members consisting of academics, educators, innovators, funders, leaders, and students from 73 countries. The Academy made a total of 2,998 reviews based on impact and scalability, which was evaluated by HundrED’s Research Team who selected the final collection of 100 innovations from 27 countries.
