Photon Robot

Empowering teachers in educating future-ready children

The Photon Robot, created at the Bialystok University of Technology is the most universal educational robot that combines STEAM with core competencies. With the same robot (and supporting materials) teachers can teach about social-emotional topics, environmental awareness, physics, robotics, coding, and AI, and organize therapies for children with autism spectrum disorders.

First of all, we hope that we could convince teachers to abandon obsolete teaching methods. More schools and teachers need to see that advanced technologies positively influence how children absorb knowledge, get motivated, and achieve measurable results. Second of all, we want to change the stereotype that educational robots are limited to coding lessons and technical competencies only.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

We created our product to help teachers and educators around the world with introducing more effective and engaging teaching methods during their everyday, critical work. Moreover, we wanted to prove that educational robots can be used for a variety of classes, not only those focused on coding.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

The Photon Robot can be used by itself or as a part of dedicated teaching kits. Each kit includes special lesson plans and didactic accessories that help with conducting different lessons. Photon Robots are highly compatible with most school equipment, including interactive whiteboards, desktop PCs, mobile devices, or even BBC micro:bit microcomputers. To communicate with Photon robots only mobile or desktop apps are needed.

Photon Robots are integrated with many proprietary and user-friendly apps and also offer plenty of third-party software integrations such as Scratch, JavaScript, MakeCode, and Python.

Our solutions work very well, which has been backed up by numerous feedbacks, and the Education Alliance Finland and ISTE certificates.

How has it been spreading?

Our main achievements include the EdTech Innovation of the Year 2022 for our AI Teaching Kit, being a nominee at BETT Award 2023 in the Hardware category, and, last but not least, receiving EAF and ISTE certificates. Moreover, Photon Robots are used by many pedagogical universities as a tool for teaching future educators (e.g. University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth). What follows, our main goals for the next 2-3 years are related to expanding our presence in key European markets and introducing a new product lineup called Classwise - Intelligent Classroom.

Regarding the popularity of our solutions - 30% of Polish and Slovakian public schools are using Photon Robots. Moreover, our robots excel at gaining the appreciation of Italian teachers (as of April 2023)

With the Robot handy, users have to download our application and start using it. No configuration or technological background is needed. Educational assets (such as lesson plans and examples) are provided for free.
