About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Children and Adults can struggle to learn Math. When young we cannot understand its importance to our adult lives and as adults if we develop unconcious bias to learning its difficult to develop math skills. MathObility is designed to develop thinking skills using innovative modular play that appeals to all ability and experience levels. We make learning easy, fun and creative to build confidence.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

OpozO Play applications offer learning pathways from simplicity to complexity as personal choice's. MathObility is a physical product offering unlimited variation and curation utilising OpozO Modular Magic. Designed to complement current generic Math curriculums, it’s great for classrooms, peer2peer or home. OpozO Play is founded in the strategy games genre occupied by Chess but works like LEGO.

How has it been spreading?

OpozO has been in development for over 20 years. It works like object orientated code that delivers unlimited play potential. OpozO is able to emulate realisms operating with attributes like strength, weight or functions like kicking a ball.

OpozO Play Systems are create & play frameworks - everything is a choice. Rules, SETUP, how you win. 2-4 & Team Player.

OpozO Markets are Fun, Education & Business Training. All OpozO Play Systems provide practical applications to develop agile, correlation, critical and creative thinking - all essential life skills.

OpozO launches early 2024. OpozO MathObility has been play tested. We aim to have Play Set's available by Summer 2024 and undertake comparative research.

OpozO has been vigorously play tested by over 3500+ people ages 7-87. It works.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

Contact us. We can email you a simple paper-based 'cut out & try' OpozO MathObility variable game One's & Zeros with Rules and basic video explainer.

One's & Zeros is offered on a personal use basis only and confers no commercial use rights. The game is based upon a fixed 6 by 6 Game Board SETUP operating with +1, 0 and -1 play tiles. Will not include using Integers and other modular benefits.

Implementation steps

Watch Explainer Video - Simple Game
The Explainer Video shows you how to setup and play a simple game using math calculations 1+1=2>1. +1 Tiles only used. It shows how the basic game mechanics work, variable placements of play tiles, tile movement/range and how tiles can combine to affect opponent tiles. The win objective is first player to get one of their tiles to a designated board tile space. Average game duration 3-10 minutes dependent on how competitive players are and how much time is taken before each move.
Game Changing - Adding Zero
The next step is to exchange some +1 Play Tiles with Zero Play Tiles. The game mechanics and the win objectives remain the same. Adding Zero Tiles with +1 Tiles enables players to understand that Zero is less than one and offers no combinational strength advantage. Players also understand that whilst Zero is weak, it can still be used to win a game. We explore Hidden Tile SETUP requiring us to assess ours and our competitors strengths and weaknesses and upon reveal adapt to uncertainty.
Game Changing - Adding -1
Here we exchange 2 x +1 with 2 x -1. Now we have +1, 0 and -1 play tiles. The rules and game win objectives stay the same. Here we start to understand that Zero is stronger that -1. As we play we have to make constant move calculations e,g, 0+-1=-1<0.
Game Changing - Adding Integers
In this step we exchange the 2 x -1 Play Tiles with 2 x -1 Play Tiles with Integer Symbols. The game rules and win objectives remain the same. Now when we are combining tile strengths we get opportunity to use Integers like superpowers to transform our opponents or our own strengths. For example, +1 facing a -1 with Multiplier Integer. -1 can use the integer to affect +1 and transform it to -1. -1 and -1 are equal. +1 has lost its advantage. We start to become comfortable with calculation.
Game Changing - Win Objectives
With OpozO Play we can always have more than one win objective in any game setup. Achieved with either/or of 2 or 3 or must complete 2 tasks to win. Win objectives can vary for each player and can be hidden. if you have a good player and someone who is not so good, you can level the play by increasing complexity for one player and thereby keep play engaging for both. Win objectives can be first to occupy or eliminate opponent tiles (specific/general) or facilitate a calculation equation.
Game Changing - Variable Play Landscapes
OpozO Game Boards are Modular. We can change the size and arrangement. Modular boards enable obstacles like 'holes' we need to avoid or hills that impact strength. If we use win objectives focussed on occupying specific board tiles we can introduce 'hidden' placement of opponent board tiles, then cover that Board Tile with a Play Tile. On reveal opponent does not know how to win. Extra fun. Smaller landscapes = quicker games, bigger for more complexity. Play can be curated to time constraints.
Game Changing - Play Tile SETUP
Players do not need to use the same allocation of type or number of play tiles. Play Tiles can be matched or unmatched setup. Each new setup delivers a new play experience. It enables us to develop foresight and understanding about how to allocate resources to achieve objectives. The win objectives can remain the same, but if we lose one way, why not innovate, and find a new way to win. OpozO enables experimentation and rewards mistakes (losing) with positive and deeper learning outcomes.
Game Changing - Skill or Chance?
OpozO Games can be played with skill only moves, chance only moves or skill/chance combinations. Option is for one player to use skill only and one player to use chance only. Experimenting with skill and chance is a fun way to play and to practice your maths. Chance play also opens the door for extended learning by attracting parents who might not be confident with maths or games to participate. Chance introduces randomness into learning and facilitates more agile thinking.
Game Changing - Increase Complexity
OpozO is modular. We can increase complexity by using different Play Tiles like +2, +3 +4 -2. We can introduce more Play Tiles with Integers and also Integer Tiles. We also have the option of the OpozO Integer Dice Play. Playing Ones & Zeros gave us confidence in applying integers. Each new Play Tile variation requires us to make different calculations, reinforcing what we have learned but also giving us a simple step by step pathway.
Game Changing - More Complexity Options
OpozO MathObility works with whole numbers and with fractions and percentages. We have a range of Play Tiles that accomodate new play and learning. Add one tile at a time. It is that simple to explore learning, become more confident and develop self-esteem in our ability to learn, win and have fun developing Critical and Creative Thinking.
