This innovative game is redefining environmental education and making learning very interesting for every young person. Through this game, young people will never find learning solutions to climate change and environmental problems boring, too technical, or too serious, rather they will be enthusiastic to learn and adoption of these solutions will seem simple, fun and practicable to them.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

The environmental education game was inspired after carrying out several climate change and environmental education programs for schools in climate change impacted communities, yet little outcome was recorded in terms of adopting these skills into practice by the beneficiaries. This gap led to the creation of a more interactive and highly effective educational tool that inspires more action.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

The PLAN Environmental game is a card game that contains problem cards that reflect the climate-related issues affecting humanity as well as solutions cards that addresses the existing climate and environmental challenges. The game has a set of instructions and rules that teach players, particularly young people, how to play and navigate the game. This enables players to be able to identify environmental problems and find matching solutions to those problems. Ultimately, players will unconsciously develop a deep understanding of the solutions to environmental issues around them and it is expected that they will go ahead to educate their peers, siblings, and parents about these solutions and encourage its adoption. For example, young people can learn about waste pollution and its negative impacts on aquatic and human health, from the solutions learnt while playing the game, they can recommend and adopt recycling and waste sorting as solutions to reducing waste pollution,.

How has it been spreading?

The PLAN Environmental Game has been exhibited in various global environmental and climate change conferences such as COP28 in Dubai and others in Cameroon. The game has been played by young people in various youth forums, hangouts, and events, hence creating an organic spread for the Game. Again, with support from our partners, we have reached out to 800 children in more than 7 schools in Nigeria and donated the game to them.
