We started out as an NGO teaching programming to young people in vulnerable communities and realized that access to knowledge is really empowering, in a life-changing way -anyone can do anything- but access to science and technology in Brazil is very restrict. So we developed TEC so that, through schools, we can reach much more children throughout the whole country and prepare them for the future.
Education is very unequal in Brazil, so the development of science and technology education is outdated and STEM education- being led by the large players in the private sector - depend on huge investments, expensive maker labs and equipment and dedicated personnel and/or extensive training. Most of the students who can't afford the top schools don't have access to any kind of hands-on science and technology learning, and these subjects become unreachable in their eyes. Science and technology get very few investiment and are not part of our culture, is something for few people.
Our innovation consists in accessible individual books and maker kits - with our own flexible circuits and components- with easy and daily-basis driven experiences, developed to make them curious and comfortable with experiencing the world, and don't need labs, tools or any material other than the ones we provide. We also provide training for the teachers empowering and allowing them to apply our methodology.
We started out in our founder's, Julia, living room floor and, while constantly developing our methodology and products, are now in more than 140 schools in all regions of the country, reaching more than 33.000 students. When pandemics hit we redesigned our product lines to make them individual and developed our exclusive flexible circuit, Tecbits - light, cheap and resistant. In the past few years we openend our factory, centering all our production at home, wich cut our costs in 17%. We're constantly developing our product to make it cheaper and better to more students. We launched the TEC+ line, with extra programing exercises, and our silver line, even more accessible. We're soon entering the public sector. In the next years, we plan to spread internationally and start a B2C line.
