The 100 Global Citizens

Global Citizen Education for Change

In Jordan, many young refugees and disadvantaged youth lack opportunities to engage in global issues and community initiatives, By equipping these young individuals with the knowledge and tools to advocate for peace, inclusivity, and justice, we foster a generation of active participants ready to drive positive change both locally and globally.

We aspire to transform education to cultivate a more inclusive and globally minded generation, especially among marginalized youth. Our vision is to embed global citizenship education that promotes not only academic excellence but also critical life skills such as empathy, cultural awareness, social responsibility, and sustainable thinking.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

To bridge the gap for youth in Jordan especially young refugees who lack knowledge about local and global issues with the skills necessary to contribute meaningfully in building peaceful and resilient communities.
It empowers them to become proactive actors by equipping them with the knowledge, values, and practical skills of global citizenship, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice, this project offers interactive sessions, discussions, workshops on global citizenship, local and global issues, different cultures, peacebuilding, and the sustainable development goals (SDGs), as it offers a reliable and free access to different online learning opportunities with the support of the project supporters where they can further develop skills essential for global citizens step by step and sustainably.

How has it been spreading?

This project draws inspiration from the personal story of its founder, Mohammad Shehadat, a young Syrian profoundly impacted by conflict. His rich and diverse experiences as an advocate for education rights, leadership, peacebuilding, and human rights activism, combined with his resilience as a refugee, serve as the foundation for this work.

Awareness campaigns have successfully engaged young people in Jordan, particularly by encouraging participation from refugees and marginalized youth, fostering their involvement in this transformative journey.

The project has been steadily gaining momentum through strong partnerships with organizations and supporters, including the Jenö Staehelin Foundation, the Kofi Annan Changemakers Initiative, LWF, and the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

- Understand the Vision: Research the goals and methods of the project.
- Connect with Supporting Organizations: Impact should be very clear.
- Learn Relevant Skills: Take courses or workshops and invest in your capacities.
- Start Your Own Initiative: after thorough brainstorming and analyzing current challenges.
- Build Awareness: develop effective campaigns.
