We aim to shape a generation of children with a high level of mathematical proficiency and to create an educational environment where children are not afraid of math but rather embrace it with enthusiasm. We envision a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive academically and develop a lifelong love for learning mathematics.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Quality education is a right yet in Nicaragua it continues to be a privilege most people don't have access to. I founded Ecuacion Futuro to change that, to offer students, who fall victim to the substandard Nicaraguan public education system, the opportunity to receive a quality education that stimulates their thinking and nurtures their love for learning.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

We teach every week at a local public school, each class has an average duration of 2 hours. Students are divided into groups according to their grade level. At the beginning of the class, there is a review of the previous week's lesson, followed by an activity to introduce a new topic. Then, the lesson is developed, and we do practice exercises. Each class is different, but we strive to make them dynamic and fun to foster a love for mathematical learning in all our students. During these lessons, children can ask questions about any math topic they did not understand in their formal classes, and we explain it in detail. Then we dedicate 30 minutes to the entrepreneurship and personal finance class. In these classes, the idea is to teach them the practical applications of mathematics. We also know receiving quality education should not be limited to a single day a week so we started our project “Math Lab''. This project consisted in remodeling an old classroom and equipping it with com

How has it been spreading?

Ecuación Futuro has spread through various channels, including exposure gained from fundraising events, articles, and social media posts highlighting our program's impact. Additionally, our volunteers actively invite other students to participate, further expanding our reach. We prioritize individuals who genuinely seek to serve others for societal betterment, resulting in many volunteers reaching out to us first. This ensures that every volunteer is fully committed and dedicated to our cause. Our growth stems from a collective dedication to empowering children through mathematics education and bridging educational gaps in our society.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

To join Ecuación Futuro, reach out to us through our website or social media channels. We welcome volunteers, donors, and partnerships to help us make a difference in children's lives through mathematics education.

Implementation steps

Selecting a public school located in a vulnerable area
In this step, a public school specifically located in an area considered vulnerable is chosen, which may entail areas with low economic resources, high unemployment rates, or social problems.
Presenting the Program to the Director of the selected School
Once the school has been identified, the program is presented to the principal of the educational institution to gain their support and collaboration.
Requesting permission from the Departmental Delegate of the Ministry of Education
Formal permission is requested from the relevant authority of the Ministry of Education at the departmental level to carry out the program in the selected school.
Once authorization is obtained, proceed to establish the day and hours when volunteers will come to
Once authorization has been obtained, logistical details such as the schedule and days when volunteers will be available to teach at the school are coordinated.
Selecting volunteers who have a passion for mathematics and a vocation for teaching
Volunteers who demonstrate a genuine interest and passion for mathematics, as well as skills and a calling for teaching students, are carefully selected.
Public school teachers select students who will be part of the program
School teachers identify students who have a genuine interest in mathematics and select them to participate in the program.
Establishing the program’s start date and presenting it to the students
The program’s start date is set, and a presentation is made to the students to inform them about the program. Additionally, an initial assessment is conducted to determine the students’ level of knowledge in mathematics.
Organizing monthly meetings with the volunteers to establish goals and review the curriculum
Regular meetings are scheduled with the volunteers to set goals, review progress, and adjust the curriculum according to the specific needs of the students, ensuring a personalized and effective approach to teaching mathematics.
