SEE Learning® goes beyond traditional SEL curriculum by developing resilience, attention and self-awareness, ethics, compassion, and systems thinking in students. Daniel Goleman calls SEE Learning “SEL 2.0” because it was designed to help students develop competencies that lead to personal and shared flourishing. SEE Learning is an open-source program that can be accessed by students worldwide.
Through a global network of over 60 international affiliates SEE Learning® is being implemented in over 80 countries around the world. The curriculum has been translated into over 24 languages. As a curriculum SEE Learning provides learning experiences in which the classroom teacher engages students in a check-in, insight activity, and reflection. SEE Learning can also be taught by integrating it into existing curriculum content. As a framework SEE Learning has been adapted to after school programs, summer school programs, juvenile detention centers, residential treatment centers, and university-based programs.
SEE Learning is currently being researched around the world in 10 research sites. The preliminary research indicates positive impact on students learning and wellbeing:
-Students demonstrate feelings of empathy and the ability to engage in perspective taking
-Students can foster self-confidence regarding their school work
-Students experience greater levels of motivation
The primary mode of growth is through establishing affiliate organizations. These organizations are responsible for implementing SEE Learning® on a national level. To support this, the Facilitator Certification program was developed to equip facilitators to train educators in their own contexts and languages. SEE Learning, and its primary affiliates, have certified over 600 facilitators around the world.
SEE Learning has grown significantly. To date, over 10 million students have been taught SEE Learning. More than 500,000 educators have engaged in the program. At the start of the 2024 school year SEE Learning Brazil provided training in SEE Learning to over 10,000 educators. India alone projects that within the next 2-3 years more than 80,000 schools will receive SEE Learning.
You can sign up for SEE 101, a free online training. This provides the foundational knowledge necessary for an educator to feel confident implementing SEE Learning in their class. Upon completing SEE 101, you will gain access to the full curriculum. Additional training opportunities are available through Emory University and affiliates, including the annual facilitator certification course.
