About the innovation

What is Snapplify Free Access

What we do?

Snapplify is at the forefront of edtech solutions in Africa, and specialises in enabling digital learning for individuals and institutions by establishing a marketplace for digital education content, related educational services, and devices. Snapplify supports reading initiatives in schools, and is the digital content partner on a project that delivers technology and e-learning to public schools in South Africa's Gauteng province.

As a pan-African edtech company, Snapplify strives for radical inclusion to level the playing field and equip individuals across emerging markets with the world-class tools they need to collaborate, innovate and thrive.

Snapplify was awarded the Africa Region Gold Award at the 2020 Reimagine Education Conference and Awards in London – an honour that is indicative of the company’s calibre in tech innovations.

Why we do it?

Snapplify, who has a long history of supporting educational institutions as they transition towards 4IR classrooms, collaborated with partners across the education industry to launch a programme called Free Access in South Africa and Kenya. This response to the COVID-19 crisis provides parents, learners and teachers to access digital ebooks, e-textbooks and other resources at no cost for the remainder of 2020. The broad selection of digital content covers educational resources for the South African and Kenyan curriculums, including e-textbooks, readers, teacher guides and study guides. We have done this as the impact we have had on ensuring continued access to education during a time of global crisis can shine a light on the important and crucial role technology has to play in continuing to increase access to quality education globally.

Within the first 24hrs we saw 700 new schools sign-up for the programme and with the support of our publishing industry partners we were able to make a catalog of over 5000 titles free for the remainder of 2020 with hundreds of thousands of free books being downloaded. Free Access has since been regarded as the single largest education intervention carried out in response to COVID-19 in Africa.
