Announcing the Second Round of Speakers at the HundrED 2020 Innovation Summit

We have just under three weeks to go before the first-ever completely virtual HundrED Innovation Summit! Join us on November 4th-6th to learn more about the incredible educational innovations rewriting the future of education. 


Whether you are a student, teacher, school leader, or just an education enthusiast we have relevant content for you. The entire schedule is jam-packed with inspiring education sessions, with over 35 (and counting) experts ready to share their insights on the global education ecosystem.

This year's program will include the perfect mix of thought-provoking sessions, keynotes, and panel discussions. Each day will feature a 90-minute main program that can be viewed both live and on-demand along with interactive sessions at varying times to meet the needs of our global audience. 

We will give you more details on the program next week but for now, we would like to share with you our next round of inspirational speakers: 


Andreas SchleicherAndreas Schleicher is the Director for the Directorate of Education and Skills, and Special Advisor on Education Policy to the Secretary-General at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris. He initiated and oversees the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and other international instruments that have created a global platform for policy-makers, researchers, and educators across nations and cultures to innovate and transform educational policies and practices.
 
He has worked for over 20 years with ministers and education leaders around the world to improve quality and equity in education. Former U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said that Schleicher “understands the global issues and challenges as well as or better than anyone I’ve met, and he tells me the truth” (The Atlantic, July 11). Former UK Secretary of State Michael Gove called Schleicher “the most important man in English education” – even though he is German and lives in France.
 
Before joining the OECD, he was Director for Analysis at the International Association for Educational Achievement (IEA). He studied Physics in Germany and received a degree in Mathematics and Statistics in Australia. He is the recipient of numerous honours and awards, including the “Theodor Heuss” prize, awarded in the name of the first president of the Federal Republic of Germany for “exemplary democratic engagement”. He holds an honorary Professorship at the University of Heidelberg.

Shaheen MistriShaheen grew up in 5 countries around the world and returned to India when she was 18 to start Akanksha. For 17 years, she worked with teachers and students, building Akanksha to provide children from low- income communities the kind of education that would maximize their greatest potential. Today, Akanksha serves 9300 children through their School Project and after-school centres in Mumbai and Pune.

In 2008, Shaheen founded Teach For India, with an audacious vision of providing an excellent education to all children across India through building a pipeline of leaders committed to ending educational inequity in India. Today, Teach For India directly impacts approximately 32,000 children across seven regions in India. Shaheen has also created projects like the Maya Musical, the Kids Education Revolution which explore student leadership, creating platforms for student voice and partnership, and TFIx, which is a year-long incubator program for passionate entrepreneurs who are willing to adapt Teach For India’s model to their context and region in rural areas.

Shaheen serves on the boards of Akanksha Foundation, and Simple Education Foundation. Shaheen has been an Ashoka Fellow, a Global Leader for Tomorrow at the World Economic Forum, and an Asia Society 21 Leader. She is the author of the book, Redrawing India and the Miss Muglee Children’s Books.

She has a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Xaviers College, Mumbai and a Master’s Degree from the University of Manchester.

Greg BehrGregg is the founder and co-chair of Remake Learning. In his 14th year as executive director of The Grable Foundation, Gregg manages a grantmaking portfolio advancing high-quality early childhood education, improved teaching and learning in public schools, and robust out-of-school-time support. Nationally, Gregg is a former board chair for both Grantmakers for Education and Grantmakers for Effective Organizations.

In 2016, President Obama recognized Gregg as a Champion of Change; in 2015, he was recognized as one of America’s Top 30 Technologists, Transformers, and Trailblazers by the Center for Digital Education; and in 2014, Gregg accepted the Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Award on behalf of Pittsburgh’s efforts to reimagine education. He holds honorary doctorates from both Carlow University and Saint Vincent College.

 Vishal Talreja Vishal co-founded Dream a Dream along with 11 others. Dream a Dream is a registered, charitable trust empowering children and young people from vulnerable backgrounds to overcome adversity and flourish in the 21st century using a creative life skills approach.

Currently, Dream a Dream works with 10,000 young people a year through two innovation labs – After School Life Skills Programme and Career Connect Programme; have trained over 8000 teachers/educators impacting over 200,000 children and young people and impact over 1 Million children through the Happiness Curriculum in partnership with the Delhi Government.

Vishal is an Ashoka Fellow, an Eisenhower Fellow, a Salzburg Global Fellow and a Board Member at PYE Global. He has previously been a Founder Director of Unltd India and Board Member of India Cares Foundation. Vishal has been recognized as an “Architect of the Future” by the Waldzell Institute in Austria. He is also an advisor and mentor to Reap Benefit and is deeply committed to mentoring start-up NGOs and young social entrepreneurs. In 2018, he was awarded the ‘Heroes of Bengaluru’ award. More recently, he has been recognized as Innovator of the Year by HundrED.org which looks to identify and recognize 100 Global Innovations on K12 Education from across the world.

Piet Grymonprez  In 2008 Piet co-founded MyMachine together with Filip Meuris and Jan Despiegelaere. With its unique methodology, MyMachine enables young people to learn that having ideas is fun and essential, and what it takes to bring an(y) idea to life. They learn that you can do this by collaborating, respecting each other's talents, and by being persistent and resilient, creative, and entrepreneurial. 

After being honoured with the United Nations World Summit Award, they created the MyMachine Global Foundation in 2015 to grow the model worldwide. In 2018 the American Friends Fund of MyMachine was founded in New York. Today, MyMachine has collaborations with schools in 13 countries on four continents. 

They received multiple awards around the globe, Forbes ran an article on the impact of MyMachine in the global education space and MyMachine has been endorsed by United Nations, Sir Ken Robinson (New York Times Bestselling author), Harvard University, The New York Academy of Sciences, The Qatar Foundation, HundrED, Katerva, Design-Management Europe, Sir Richard Branson (Virgin Unite), Tom Vander Ark (first Executive Director Education at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation), and business leaders and education thinkers alike.

Piet is co-author of the book “What Is Your Dream Machine? How Children Change Education Worldwide”, explaining the context, and the why and how of MyMachine. The book has a foreword by Sir Ken Robinson and chapters written by a.o. The New York Academy of Sciences and Harvard University. In May 2020 Arianna Huffington (Huffington Post) personally asked Piet to start writing for her Thrive Global’s website.

Sonal KapoorSonal Kapoor is Founder Director, Protsahan India Foundation, an organization that works critically on child protection (from a legal and psychosocial lens) and encouraging young girls from difficult backgrounds of violence & abuse to reach their full potential with access to education, health, and gender justice. She is a World Bank fellow, Vital Voices Lead fellow, Australia India Youth fellow, and an alumnus of Indian School of Business. She has pursued Child Protection Law from the National Law School of India University and Harvard University. She advises with Unicef India on critical child care projects. She believes in order for children to thrive, they need to survive first. A step even before quality education is maintaining strong child protection systems and has done a lot of work at the intersectionality of these two areas. 

Martin BurtDr. Martin Burt is a social entrepreneur working on two global social innovations: financially self-sufficient agricultural schools and the Poverty Stoplight, a new participatory poverty metric. He is the founder and CEO of Fundacion Paraguaya, one of Latin America’s most impactful NGOs, and co-founder and Board Member of Teach A Man To Fish and the Bertoni Nature Conservation Foundation. He is a member of the Board of the Schwab Foundation at the World Economic Forum and the Global FoodBanking Network. His latest book “Who Owns Poverty?” was published in September 2019. He is the Social Entrepreneur in Residence at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, WPI, and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of California, Irvine.
Formerly he was elected Mayor of Asuncion and served as Vice Minister of Commerce and Chief of Staff to the President of Paraguay. He earned his Ph.D. from Tulane University Law School.

Stephen RitzStephen Ritz is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning educator, author of the best-selling book, The Power Of A Plant, and Founder of Green Bronx Machine. Known as America's favorite teacher, Stephen is responsible for creating the first edible classroom in the world. He and his students have grown more than 100,000 pounds of vegetables in the South Bronx, have been celebrated at the Obama White House three times, have been featured on the cover of TIME for KIDS, and are the subject of a new, full-feature documentary, Generation Growth.


Vikas Pota
Vikas Pota the chairman of the World Education Week. He is a globally respected leader and driving force for much good in the education, international development, philanthropy and technology sectors. His achievements include creating global awareness of the importance of education and specifically about the centrality of teachers and their profession.

His passion for dialogue, cooperation and creating collaborative projects that further the causes he supports mark him out from a field that is normally bound by national boundaries and often by ideology. The way in which he approaches coalition building has resulted in successful partnerships, engaging organisations such as Education International – the international alliance of teacher unions – to the opposite spectrum of for-profit providers in education, bringing them onto a shared platform for dialogue, supporting and strengthening public education systems

Aline SaraIn 2015, in light of the challenging work situation for the million+ Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and while searching for ways to practice her own Arabic skills, Aline came up with the idea for NaTakallam. Aline Sara is the co-founder and CEO of NaTakallam, an award-winning social enterprise that connects refugees and displaced persons with work opportunities in the language sector through the freelance economy. Winner of the World Bank Youth Summit, Regional Winner of the MIT Inclusive Innovation Challenge, Asia, and one of the top 3 MENA finalists for the Cartier Women’s Initiative among other competitions/awards, Sara has overseen the growth of NaTakallam from a small startup to a globally recognized organization that has distributed over $900,000 in self-earned income to refugees and displaced people.

Lebanese, born and raised in New York, Aline completed her Baccalaureate at the Lycée Français in New York City and graduated in psychology from Tufts University in Boston. She then moved to Beirut and worked in conflict resolution and human rights before transitioning into journalism, focusing on human and women’s rights and wider socio-political affairs before, during and after the Arab Uprisings. In 2012, Aline returned to New York for her master’s in international affairs at Columbia University. She then worked as an international election observer in Tunisia, Guyana and Haiti while continuing to write as a freelancer on the side.
