Explore the 80+ Innovations Submitted to the Pittsburgh Spotlight

From farming with fish and learning math through dance to online learning platforms and school-based computer science immersion, educators in the Pittsburgh region have put their best ideas forward as HundrED seeks the 10 most inspiring innovations from the area.

The submissions are in! For the past few months, educators and innovators from around southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia have been writing down their innovative approaches to teaching and learning as HundrED searches for the 10 most inspiring innovations from the Pittsburgh region in the United States.

We received a total of 82 submissions to the Pittsburgh Spotlight from schools, museums, libraries, non-profits, government agencies, community centers, universities, research projects, and local companies. Submissions include:

  • 27 schools and school districts in the Pittsburgh region sharing their innovative approaches
  • 9 technology tools to facilitate learning developed by local companies and research projects
  • 8 projects of local colleges and universities, including innovations from the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and Penn State University
  • 31 programs and approaches from local museums, non-profits, and community centers

You can explore all 82 innovations on the Pittsburgh Spotlight page.

The next phase of the competition includes a rigorous review of all eligible applications by HundrED’s global research team, followed by a local advisory committee made up of educators, parents, students, researchers, and community stakeholders who will score each innovation and help decide which will make the cut to be included in the Spotlight collection. You can learn more about the local committee in this Q&A with chair Sunanna Chand, director of Remake Learning.

Following the review period, the 10 selected innovations will be announced in May as part of Remake Learning Days, a regional celebration of the future of learning.
