Understanding our Safeguarding Policy for the HundrED Youth Ambassadors

Our HundrED Youth Ambassador Programme in partnership with IBO calls on young people around the world to raise their voices to create positive change. Keeping young people safe is our top priority; find out about our safeguarding policy here.

Updated on December, 2023.

The Youth Ambassador Programme is all about valuing, respecting, and listening to the young generation of changemakers. Our main priority is your safety and wellbeing. That’s why we’ve put together this online safety policy for all young people involved with HundrED.

You might already be familiar with a lot of these tips, but please read them carefully. Contact us if you have any questions, or to request our full safeguarding policy.

To stay safe as a Youth Ambassador, ask yourself these questions:

1. Do I have permission from a parent or guardian to join the Programme?

If you are under 18 years old, you’ll need to have permission from your legal guardian to be a Youth Ambassador. We will ask for guardian consent when you sign up to the programme.

2. Am I sharing any personal information online?

The Youth Ambassador Programme uses a platform called Discord to engage in online conversations. When talking to others on Discord, don't share any personal information with others. This includes not sharing your address, phone number, passwords, etc.

3. Do I have permission to post these photos?

If you’re going to post photos of yourself or friends on the Discord server, ask yourself: “Has the person in this photo given me permission to post it here?” If you are under 16, do you also have permission from your parents to post the photo?  If you are over 16 and have parental permission, you can add a headshot as your profile picture. If you have a picture of fellow youth ambassadors (for example, a screenshot of an online meetup) and want to share it elsewhere, ask them first for permission to share it.

4. Is this something I should really post?

Online content can be seen by thousands of people. And once it’s out there, it can be difficult to take it back. Keep this in mind, and make sure that you are happy with what you are posting before you share it for everyone to see.

5. Am I treating others with kindness and with respect?

Everyone has the right to be safe online, so remember to be kind and respectful to others. HundrED has zero tolerance for bullying and discrimination.

6. Could this post be considered inappropriate?

If it could be considered inappropriate or offensive, don’t post it. The Youth Ambassador Discord server is a safe space for all, so inappropriate photos or language, swearing, hurtful comments will not be tolerated. If any content is deemed inappropriate, HundrED has the right to remove this content immediately.

7. Who is this message coming from?

You should only be receiving Youth Ambassador Programme's emails and communications from HundrED staff members. If you receive an email from anyone else, do not reply. Simply tell an adult and forward the email to annapaula.herrera@hundred.org

8. What should I do if someone wants to meet up?

You should never meet up with someone you only know from online, as this person is still a stranger. If someone asks to meet you, please tell a parent/guardian and contact Anna Paula, Community Coordinator at HundrED.

9. Who do I tell if I am worried or have concerns?

If you feel unsafe or have any concerns please tell an adult you trust and contact Anna Paula, HundrED's Community Coordinator or Heini Karppinen, HundrED's COO. If your concern is with a HundrED staff member, tell an adult you trust and contact Anna Paula or Heini. You can also contact your local safeguarding organisation, for example, Childline, Childhelp, etc.

Most importantly, stay safe and have fun! We want all HundrED Youth Ambassadors to make the most of this experience, so by staying safe online, we hope that you and lots of young people globally can work together to change education for the better!
