The society needs to be aware of its cultural heritage in order to maintain and pass it to the next generations by preserving it. Since the loss of cultural heritage is now a universal concern, aMUSEd Learning aims at contributing to the safeguarding of cultural heritage in order to raise awareness and to inform the younger generations.
The museums which are multiple learning and living environment to teaching and education, the museums lie at the heart of the Project. The project promotes learner-centered, quality, and comprehensive cultural education that supports the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical learning by using museums as a learning environment.
The practical work in the project are realized in three steps: before the museum experience, the museum experience and after the museum experience. This work fundamentally based on Creative Drama Method and Techniques such as warm-up games, role playing activities, improvisation performances, story-telling, pantomime, characterization, and all kinds of games. At the same time, aMUSEd Learning is an interdisciplinary project using the techniques of creative drama, general educational methods, and explicit techniques used in museum education. It is grounded in play-based education and incorporates social-emotional learning, empathy development, positive behaviour management, peacebuilding, and mindfulness.
In other words, the basic aims of the project is to create a museum culture in the society, to provide educational opportunities, and to create awareness about cultural heritage and museums. The project aims to establish mutual relations between schools and museums, in a broad sense. society and museums. aMUSEd Learning primarily targets to reach out children and teenagers as much as possible through the agency of teachers.
This project will tend major and significant contributions to the duration of raising respectful individuals to the cultural heritage in the light of today’s understanding of museology and museum education. Within this development process, which runs according to the educational psychology from the passive learning to active learning approach, the physical use of the museums as educational environment will effect to the transformation of cultural heritage and museum perceptions of the kids and young people. This project is a genuine and ‘in-depth investigation’ that clear the way for expansion of the understanding of cultural heritage among different age groups of society.
The students who participate to the workshops within the project are expected to maintain the awareness of the preservation of the cultural heritage as well as to hide it in the rest of their lives and also expand it to their environment. Similarly, it is thought that, the teachers will continue to engrain the understanding of cultural heritage to the future generations. In this way, the societal support and communal involvement activity is going to be ensured, which has vital significance along the preservation of the cultural heritage, in time. Other than that, the students are going to be raised as responsible individuals, who knows and understands the real meaning of cultural heritage and as a result of this, it will be possible to contribute not only to the World’s cultural heritage but also; to the World peace.
Museum Booklets, specially designed for the museum to be visited, offer students to experience versatile and effective learning by means of games, puzzles, fun activities, intriguing questions, drawings, storytelling, treasure hunt, time capsule, creative writing, etc.
Over the last six years, aMUSEd Learning has reached many people – 2160 teachers, more than 5175 students and 3200 adults. Going forward, MÜZ e.d.e. (Education Drama Event) Initiative intends to expand aMUSEd Learning into the world.
