Comunidades de Aprendizaje

Improve learning and school coexistence of students, through community participation.

The learning gaps between students, the problems of school coexistence are still valid and the pandemic has increased them. Comunidades de Aprendizaje is based on scientific evidence of what educational practices have resulted in vulnerable populations. Therefore, we implement a way to dialogue and link families in the student learning process to achieve the expected results.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

The Community of Research on Excellence for All of the Univ. of Barcelona proved that the participation of families affects a higher level of student learning (Flecha, 2006-2011). Instituto Natura leads its implementation and Fundación 99 coordinates and implements in Chile with different alliances.
Given the learning gap, the lack of parental participation, Fundación 99 implements this project.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Comunidades de Aprendizaje is a project of social and educational transformation that seeks to improve the learning and school coexistence of all students. It has 4 key actors who are involved in the school community: students, teachers-principals, families and the community where the school is located.
First, the project is presented to the school community, so that they can decide to accept or reject the invitation.
If the school accepts, it starts the dreaming stage. This is when the educational community structures the school, its goals and organises itself into heterogeneous teams to achieve these challenges. At the same time, the educational community begins to be trained in the scientific basis of the project and to participate in 7 successful educational actions, structured according to the research.
This process takes place through the constant accompaniment of its schools by Fundación 99 over 4 years.

How has it been spreading?

Comunidades de Aprendizaje began to be implemented in Spain in 1995. Instituto Natura leads the project in 5 Latin American countries. Fundación 99, in alliance with Instituto Natura, began its implementation in Chile in 2019 in 30 public schools in different areas of the country. To date it has been private funding, however, a change in sustainability strategy has been promoted since 2020 and where local communities take the leadership and our foundation is responsible for developing those capacities and fundraise. That is why we have formed a group of teachers and managers within each school to train and accompany them in the project, in addition to training local governments, impacting the strategic plans of each school.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

You should get in contact with the project to receive the training and the protocols of implementation: info@fundacion99.org
