Developmental Play is like a pyramid where each level builds on an earlier one. Ensuring that each level is solid for a child, which may involve going back to rebuild it, is the key to the success of this approach. The Developmental Play training gives you the skills to identify if a child needs support, and exercises and activities to support them.
Developmental Play is associated with the Real Play Coalition, launched in 2018 by the LEGO Foundation, IKEA, National Geographic and Unilever to bring play back into childhood. A report from the World Economic Forum says “We must equip our children with the tools to address and embrace the new realities of tomorrow. To do this, we must allow them to develop through play the skills they need to thrive in the dynamic, challenging economies of tomorrow.”
Our online Academy and our in-person workshops teach you to identify if a child has missed out on a level of play and should go back to it, and then to take them there so they can build from a strong, confident starting point. The courses are suitable for parents/carersand for teachers/clinicians such as childcare workers, teachers and therapists.
Ambition to scale
We are introducing Developmental Play through the Asian Regional Network for Early Childhood in the next few weeks which covers 30 countries in this region. Additionally, we will present our work in the US in Octoberand launch in the UK in 2021. We are currently working on building more partnerships here in Singapore and in Hong Kong.
Response to School Closures
The Stay at Home Play at Homeresources were developed as Open Source for a rapid COVID-19 response and have since been translated into 9 languages across the world by organisations like Plan International, World Vision and Asian Parent Magazine. Hope that can be highlighted.
