Differentiated Co-teaching in multi-grade and multi-ability level classrooms

place Armenia

This is a modification of Station-rotation blended learning model for multi-grade and multi-ability level classrooms

Here the key is that at one lesson the teacher can set three different lesson objectives, so each group can have their own objectives for that lesson and even different topics, instructions, and deliverables, based on their abilities. In each station, each group does specific activities, passing into three main stages at the time during the lesson: New material, Guided Practice, Independent work.

"Technology shortage does not limit inclusive teaching opportunities"

About the innovation

Differentiated teaching strategies for areas with limited access to technologies

What we do?

We adapt and modify inclusive and differentiated teaching best practices making them usable for contexts where there is limited access to assistive technologies.

Why we do it?

We know that effective Inclusive education needs appropriate accommodations and a lot of investment. Sometimes specialists and teachers consider themselves unable to use new teaching strategies and differentiated instructions to reach all learners in their classrooms because they feel dependance from technologies and material resources. In Armenia and in many countries of the world, there is a shortage of technology in schools, especially in rural areas. Modifying effective teaching strategies for that kind of contexts we provide tools to the teachers to be able to teach effectively and inclusively in classrooms with students with diverse educational needs and learning abilities.

Implementation steps

Set up your classroom

1. Set three learning stations in your classroom and put name tags on each station

2. Measure learning ability and knowledge levels of your students

3. Divide your students into three groups based on measurement outcomes

4. Set clear classroom rules and procedures for each station

5. Teach/train your students to get used to all the procedures that you set
