Early childhood is a critical moment to cultivate children’s SEC, especially for those living in poverty and with delayed socio-emotional development. This hinges on educators’ own SEC and well-being; an adult who models and teaches these skills can promote a nurturing learning environment and the development of children’s SEC, which serve as protective factors for children now and in the future.
EW, AtentaMente’s proprietary curriculum, consists of three components.
1) A rigorous professional development program that uses a blended learning approach - synchronous sessions, a self-paced online course, and a mobile app - to train educators to understand and practice SEC in their lives and classrooms and improve their own well-being.
2) An SEL curriculum for students, which embeds both explicit instruction and the practice of targeted skills into daily activities.
3) Leadership training that builds local capacity to ensure culturally and contextually relevant SEL implementation that enacts long-term systemic change.
EW effectively improves outcomes for educators and students. A recent RCT by the Center for Healthy Minds (n=2162 educators, 421 schools) revealed enhanced educator self-regulation, prosociality, self-efficacy, and well-being and improved student prosociality and self-regulation.
In 2018, EW trained 1,000 preschool principals across seven Mexican states. By 2024, it has scaled to 31,491 educators from PreK to K12 in 22,339 schools, impacting 482,284 students in 15 states. In 2024, it will run in 5 states, with plans for two more, aiming for full coverage.
EW's scalability grew significantly, with instructors increasing from 60 to 180 in four years, using hybrid and all-virtual delivery in collaboration with local Ministries of Education.
A core group of 1,041 leader educators has been trained in five states to ensure systemic implementation and sustainability. In the next 2-3 years, EW targets training 50,000+ educators nationwide, including preschool, elementary, and middle school educators. Plans include expanding EW to other countries and other adult networks.
We’re always looking for partners to expand and fund our programs in Mexico and the world.
