About the innovation

What is Genius Lab

What we do?

Genius Lab aims to engage children in hands-on learning, experimenting and solving problems and to inspire young inventors, encouraging children to apply their creativity, use lastest tech tools, build prototypes and unlock their potential.

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." —Albert Einstein

Why we do it?

With today’s computer and telecommunication technologies, every young person should have access to a quality education regardless of his or her place of birth or wealth of parents. Technological innovation is both a social and economic imperative for all societies going forward and STEAM education is a key building block because it rests at the center of creating jobs for the future generation.

Makerspaces in schools, museums, and afterschool centers have become local hubs of creativity and collaboration. However, most of them are closed currently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of Genius Hour is to encourage and support STEAM and making activities at home during this time when schools, museums, and afterschool centers are closed. Making can be done anywhere with anything from the kitchen table, on the floor, in the garage or on the back porch with materials lying around in the house such as straws, paper, plastics bottles, condiments etc.

Genius Hour

In efforts to improve science literacy, Genius Lab launched a free cloud-based AI learning solution "Genius Hour", which allow K-12 students a rewarding and fun STEAM learning experience online. Genius Hour is a 21 days online camp built by respective STEAM course modules, inspiring students to "think like a scientist, solve problems like an engineer and design like a designer" through learning by doing.

Each day, we provide a “package” for the children and parents. The package will be a thematic set of videos, resources and online/offline activities with different STEAM goals. The children then upload his or her project onto our open forum for learners to discuss and share insights. We aim to inspire a diverse global community of educators, students, and parents to find innovative and humanistic solutions to the challenges of learning at a distance.

"Genius Hour" was launched in February, 2020 and has received strong positive feedbacks from children, parents, and educators since. Though currently in its early stage, the project has already engaged more than 1500 family participants and over 5000 submissions of STEAM projects. Our mission is to benefit 1 million children globally by the end of 2023.
