Innovative Gamified Environmental Education Servic

Make environmental action the most fun thing in the world!

We have developed an environmental education strategy based on "gamification, emotional appeal, and spontaneity." This includes using gamified teaching to solve learning boredom; employing emotional narratives and daily life connections to enhance favorability toward environmental protection; and sharing action incentives to boost the motivation for environmental actions.

In the short term, we see improvements in interest, enhanced cognition, and a shift in attitudes. In the long term, we see ourselves more as guides opening the door to environmental protection. Through engaging courses, we inspire students to proactively explore environmental issues. This gives them the opportunity to gradually connect with more environmental organizations, learn relevant environmental science, and participate in further environmental actions or advocacy, ultimately achieving deeper environmental education outcomes!

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

In traditional environmental education, most organizations primarily use "lectures and guided tours to explain environmental knowledge." This often results in a tedious process, poor learning outcomes, and low willingness to practice environmental protection. Consequently, the needs of stakeholders such as governments, enterprises, and schools—including greater social value output and better learning and implementation results—remain unmet, creating significant pain points.

Therefore, we have developed a new environmental education service strategy centered on "gamification, emotional appeal, and spontaneity." This includes using gamified teaching to solve the problems of boredom and poor learning outcomes; employing emotional narratives and strong daily life connections to enhance environmental resonance and favorability; and finally, using incentive sharing and practical introductions to boost the motivation for spontaneous environmental action. We aim to address the pain points of ineffective traditional environmental education and, through these educational methods, encourage more people to actively participate in environmental protection!

What does your innovation look like in practice?

We have currently developed environmental education services covering two major themes: "Climate Change" and "Sustainable Agriculture and Low-Carbon Diets." We consistently collaborate with government agencies and schools annually to host gamified environmental education teacher workshops and winter/summer camps for students. We have also published board game tools focused on "Climate Change" and "Sustainable Agriculture and Low-Carbon Diets" for school teachers to use.

Additionally, we continue to partner with corporations to transform complex environmental issues into engaging lesson plans and board games, allowing corporate volunteers to lead rural students through gamified learning to understand environmental challenges and solutions.

To date, our services span 19 out of Taiwan's 22 counties and cities. We have collaborated with 120 organizations, including National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, and dozens of high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools. We have also worked with government agencies such as the Ministry of Environment, the Central Weather Administration, and local Environmental Protection and Education Bureaus. On the corporate side, we have partnered with firms such as juliArt and Farglory Life. In total, we have conducted over 300 environmental education sessions with more than 10,000 participants. Furthermore, our environmental education board games have sold over 1,000 sets, with a total of 77,000 users.

How has it been spreading?

We increase our visibility by participating in competitions. For example, in 2025, we won the "Environmental Education Award" in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, which led to an environmental education partnership with the Taoyuan Environmental Protection Bureau. Also in 2025, we received the "Parenting Lifestyle" Innovation 100 Award and shared our gamified environmental education services with schools across Taiwan at the annual conference. Furthermore, in 2025, we successfully obtained the "Sustainable Textbook Label" certification from Taiwan's "Earth Solutions" organization, which also named us a partner in their "Sustainable Education Action."

Regarding board games, we were pleased to develop a marketing collaboration with Taiwan's "Public Television Service" (PTS) in 2025. Our climate board games were listed on their official platform, and we received exposure through commercials introducing our board games during television ad breaks.

We actively manage our online communities to maintain stable interaction with stakeholders, including writing regular environmental education articles, publishing quarterly newsletters, sharing updates on Facebook weekly, and posting activity information in LINE communities daily. Additionally, we release one "public interest" open-source environmental education teaching material every year, which not only increases our exposure but also allows more teachers to utilize our innovative environmental education game tools.

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

We have collected over 350 commercially available board games for the purpose of researching and developing gamified teaching tools. In 2025, we selected 100 educational board games from this collection to establish a non-profit board game rental platform. This platform offers free rentals to teachers across Taiwan, aiming to encourage more educators to join the ranks of gamified education.

Over the past few years, we have also built a database of over 3,500 environmental education lesson plans. This database systematically collects authoritative materials and award-winning lesson plans from central and local environmental agencies, national parks, and landmark NPOs. We regularly conduct in-depth analyses of these plans to enhance our own research and development capabilities.

During this time, we have gradually expanded our team. Our current team includes members with Master’s degrees in environmental and education fields, experience in publishing board game design theses, and backgrounds as school teachers. Team members also hold professional certifications as Environmental Education Personnel and in Gamification Design. Every year, we continue to enhance our team's "gamified environmental education" capabilities through advanced courses in environment, education, and gamification, as well as internal training and board game deconstruction exercises.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

If you would like to participate in our actions, you can become one of our environmental education instructors. Our team currently consists of 7 environmental education instructors. We provide instructor training and teaching rehearsals, conduct classroom observations during your first session, and perform post-class reviews and effectiveness evaluations.

We also provide modular lesson plans and teaching presentations. The lesson plans include transcripts of nearly 10,000 words, along with customized items designed for scenarios such as corporate employees, school teachers, student courses, and family activities. The presentation materials include nearly 100 pages of PPT slides with speaker notes to assist instructors during their lectures.

Furthermore, we have established an instructor management system and related SOPs. Everything from lecture data archiving, instructor transportation, and equipment checklists to client contact information and pre-departure notification methods is integrated and communicated through this system. We aim to use this systematic approach to enable all partners to execute environmental education services efficiently and with high quality.

Implementation steps

1. Summarizing key points of environmental issue teaching
Identify learning content and objectives for your target audience by referencing the guidelines of Taiwan’s 108 Curriculum Framework. Additionally, consult the 19 Issues Handbook, which contains numerous key learning points and goals related to environmental education.
2. Observe the environmental education lesson plan outcomes of others
Observe award-winning lesson plans from Taiwan's Ministry of Environment or Ministry of Education to learn lesson plan design techniques.
3. Plan the structure of environmental education lesson plans
Our lesson design guidelines consist of five items: (1) Inquiring about participants' sensory experiences and perspectives regarding environmental issues. (2) Introducing basic concepts of the environmental issue that can help participants succeed in the game. (3) Conducting environmental education through gamification. (4) Conducting reflection through focused discussion. (5) Introducing practical methods for environmental protection in a highly attractive manner.
4. Design an Environmental Education Instructional Presentation.
presentation design guidelines:
(1) Every module must conclude with a summary or evaluation.
(2) Total duration should be strictly capped at approximately 3 hours.
(3) Visual aids should account for at least 80% of the total slides.
(4) Videos must be under 5 mins, paired with 2–3 discussion prompts.
(5) Discussions must follow the ORID framework with suggested answers.
(6) Include an interactive element every 10 minutes of lecturing.
(7) Use reward cards and scoring to boost engagement and fun.
5. Conducting trial teaching and rehearsals; executing educational services.
After conducting internal and external trial teaching rehearsals, the environmental education services can be officially implemented.
