Lack of contextualized life skills for India impedes large scale adoption by funders & governments. The absence of collaborative effort has resulted in a dearth of holistic solutions & fractured vocabulary. No clear measure of effectiveness of initiatives results in lack of India-specific evidence of impact. LSC is driving collaborative action for a life skills-focused learning ecosystem in India.
LSC has 18 organisations & 4 state governments driving collaborative action on life skills in India, focused on 3 key solutions -
1) A Glossary to standardise the vocabulary of life skills. It is available in 4 languages, and has definitions and skills in action for 52 skills. The Glossary has been downloaded 750+ times and is being widely used.
2) 4 scientific & contextual assessment tools developed as public goods for 3 stakeholders - to measure social & emotional well-being and future readiness in adolescents, teachers' ability to transact life skills & the system readiness to implement a life skills program. These tools are helping gather scientific evidence on life skills across 4 states in India.
3) LSC brought 60+ organisations on an LSNet forum that meets quarterly and had over 500 individuals join across 7 sessions held so far. Data from over 60k+ young people, parents & teachers has also been captured across 14 states on their perceptions and understanding of life skills.
LSC Glossary is available in 4 languages, has been downloaded 750+ times and has more than 31k+ views. It is being used by organisations which have a global impact. The Glossary will be translated into new Indian languages to make it more contextual. The LSC assessment tools are validated in 4 states with 40,000 adolescents, 1000 teachers and 100 government officials have been administered to 160K+ adolescents & 2000 teachers between Jan-Mar 2023. Data from 60k+ young people & parents are currently being collected from across 14 states in India and non-LSC member organisations have also joined this initiative. In the coming years, LSC will create public goods to help take the conversations on life skills to the community.
