Target group
With OilSorb, we aim to promote a more hands-on, sustainability-driven approach in education. We want to show that students can create real solutions to global problems through innovation and teamwork. Our goal is to inspire youth to think critically, act responsibly, and engage actively in building a cleaner, greener future—starting from the classroom.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

We created OilSorb to combat the growing problem of water pollution caused by oil spills and leaks. As young innovators, we wanted to develop a sustainable, affordable, and eco-friendly solution that protects aquatic life and ensures clean water for future generations.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice, OilSorb appears as a lightweight, sponge-like material made from natural fibers. It is placed directly onto oil-contaminated water, where it rapidly absorbs oil without soaking up water. After use, it can be safely removed and disposed of or repurposed, offering an efficient and user-friendly cleanup process.

How has it been spreading?

OilSorb has gained attention through environmental competitions, youth entrepreneurship programs, and school-based sustainability projects. We’ve shared our innovation at science fairs, social media platforms, and community workshops to raise awareness about water pollution. Collaborations with environmental organizations and feedback from experts have helped us improve and promote our product. As we continue developing prototypes, we aim to reach NGOs, coastal municipalities, and industries to implement OilSorb in real-life scenarios.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

If you want to try OilSorb, you can reach out to our team through our social media pages or project platforms. We’ll be happy to provide sample materials, explain how to use them effectively, and collect your feedback. We are also open to pilot programs, partnerships, and collaborations with schools, institutions, and eco-conscious communities. Let’s work together for cleaner water!

Implementation steps

Identify the Spill Area
Locate the area where oil or oil-based pollutants are present on the water surface.
Place OilSorb on the Surface
Gently place the OilSorb pads or material directly onto the oil-contaminated water. Avoid disturbing the water too much for maximum absorption.
Wait for Absorption
Allow OilSorb to sit on the surface for a few minutes. It will selectively absorb the oil without taking in the water.
Remove the Saturated Material
Using gloves or a safe tool, carefully lift the used OilSorb from the water.
Dispose or Repurpose
Dispose of the oil-saturated pads responsibly, or in controlled environments, repurpose or recycle them based on local waste management practices.
Repeat if Necessary
For larger spills, repeat the process until the water surface is visibly clean.
