Trinity College London is a charity working in the language assessment sector. We know that teachers often feel anxiety when called to enter students for exams or plan their lessons around what students' actual speaking ability is in English. This information enables a teacher to segment their class into proficiencies, plan better lessons that focus in on areas of weakness (using our bespoke lesson planner) and ultimately give teachers the confidence they need to make decisions about the right assessments for their students.
The test sits on our teacher platform NoteLab English, which also contains a bespoke lesson planner based on the CEFR, so teachers can plan English lessons, choosing from up to 17 different types of communicative activities. Alongside this sits the diagnostic tool, where teachers upload classes and generate codes to receive feedback. Students can do the test at home or at school on mobile or tablet, it is a 6 minute test that adapts to the child's natural language ability. The test is guided by Sara, and avatar, who supports and engages in age and language appropriate conversation. The results are delivered immediately to the teacher in the form of extremely detailed feedback, quoting the student's responses and diving detailed information about each task fulfilment criteria.
Very well. We know this has been a teacher need for a long time, and we're thrilled to be able to bring together the requisite complex group of technologies, coupled with incredible academics at TCL to make this a reality. Helping teachers segment classes to define how better to support each student, and using technology to do this so they can spend their valuable time on teaching is our goal.
We constantly iterate on our products based on teacher feedback and input, so we have changed task types, included more imagery and supplied more support for teachers less familiar with technology.
You need to register for a free account on NoteLab English, at the moment we are piloting in Italy but we'll be rolling out further soon. If you'd like to join our super user programme email us at labs@trinitycollege.com
