Target group
Through the Vietnam Innovative Educator Foundation (VIEF), we hope to create a lasting transformation in education by empowering teachers, fostering innovation, and improving learning outcomes for students across Vietnam. Our vision is for every educator, regardless of location or resources, to have access to professional development, practical teaching tools, and a supportive community that encourages experimentation and creativity. We aim to cultivate a culture where technology is used meaningfully in classrooms to enhance student engagement, personalize learning, and develop 21st-century skills. By connecting teachers nationwide and sharing successful practices, VIEF seeks to reduce the digital divide between urban and rural schools, ensuring that students in all provinces benefit from high-quality, modern education. We hope to see a system where innovation is not isolated but becomes an integral part of everyday teaching, where educators feel confident to adopt new approaches, collaborate, and continuously improve. By doing so, VIEF envisions a generation of learners who are more engaged, creative, and prepared for the demands of a rapidly changing world, while also inspiring educators to lead the way in shaping a more equitable, effective, and future-ready education system in Vietnam.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

In today’s education landscape, integrating technology into teaching is crucial for improving the quality and effectiveness of learning. However, many teachers in Vietnam still face challenges accessing new methods and digital tools, limiting their ability to innovate and apply effective teaching practices. Additionally, the lack of a nationwide network for educators reduces opportunities to learn, share experiences, and develop professionally.
We created the Vietnam Innovative Educator Foundation (VIEF) to address these challenges. Our innovation builds a community of over 177,000 teachers, school leaders, and education professionals across the country, providing a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and sharing of creative teaching approaches and technology use.
Through training sessions, resource sharing, and networking events, VIEF empowers educators to enhance their digital skills and professional competencies while fostering a culture of innovation within Vietnam’s education system. Operating as a non-profit with support from Microsoft and the Ministry of Education and Training, VIEF ensures that every member has equal access to opportunities for growth and sustainable development.
This innovation not only improves teaching quality but also contributes to building a more equitable, modern, and creative education system aligned with the digital transformation era.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice, the Vietnam Innovative Educator Foundation (VIEF) operates as a vibrant, dynamic community where educators actively connect, collaborate, and grow together. The core of VIEF is its online platform and social media groups, which currently engage over 177,000 members including teachers, school leaders, and education specialists from all 63 provinces of Vietnam.
Through this platform, members share practical teaching strategies, lesson plans, and effective uses of educational technology such as Microsoft Teams, OneNote, and FlipGrid. The community regularly organizes virtual and in-person training workshops, webinars, and peer-to-peer mentoring sessions to support professional development and digital skills enhancement.
VIEF also facilitates large-scale events like innovation competitions and forums that celebrate and recognize outstanding educators, inspiring others to experiment with creative, technology-enhanced teaching methods. Local education departments and schools collaborate with VIEF to tailor programs suited to diverse regional needs, ensuring inclusivity and contextual relevance.
By fostering continuous exchange and empowerment, VIEF helps teachers overcome challenges related to digital divide and limited resources, enabling them to deliver more engaging, personalized, and effective education to their students. This collective effort drives systemic change and promotes a culture of innovation in Vietnamese education.

How has it been spreading?

The Vietnam Innovative Educator Foundation (VIEF) has spread rapidly across the country through a combination of community-building, partnerships, and recognition programs. Since its official launch in 2015, VIEF has grown to include over 177,000 members, connecting teachers, school leaders, and education professionals from all 63 provinces. The online platform and social media groups serve as the primary channels for engagement, allowing educators from urban and rural areas to exchange ideas, share resources, and collaborate on innovative teaching practices.
Beyond online interaction, VIEF organizes nationwide training workshops, peer-to-peer mentoring, and forums that reach thousands of participants each year. Collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training and local Departments of Education ensures that programs are implemented in schools across all regions, adapting to local contexts and needs. High-profile events, such as the Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert (MIEE) recognition and Showcase School (SCS) programs, further amplify the community’s visibility, motivating more educators to join and adopt innovative practices.
The innovation has spread not only through structured programs but also organically, as members share successes, mentor peers, and replicate effective methods in their schools. As a result, VIEF has reached tens of thousands of teachers and over 2 million students nationwide, creating a scalable and sustainable ecosystem for educational in

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

Since its inception, the Vietnam Innovative Educator Foundation (VIEF) has continuously evolved to meet educators’ changing needs. Initially focused on connecting teachers and sharing digital resources, VIEF expanded to include structured professional development, peer mentoring, and recognition programs like Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert (MIEE) and Showcase School (SCS).
The community adapts based on member feedback and emerging challenges. During COVID-19, VIEF quickly shifted to virtual workshops and resources for remote teaching, helping educators maintain effective instruction. Programs are tailored to diverse contexts, supporting teachers in urban, rural, and remote areas with strategies for limited technology access and student engagement.
VIEF has strengthened partnerships with local authorities, schools, and international organizations to provide recognition, incentives, and support, encouraging adoption of innovative practices. These adaptations have increased participation, ensured relevance, and enhanced scalability, enabling educators nationwide to implement creative, technology-enhanced teaching methods that improve learning outcomes and foster continuous professional growth.
