With this immersive experience we hope to educate and inspire the leaders of tomorrow and encourage their interest in the important topics of our time that aren't necessarily taught in schools. We hope that educators will embrace new technologies and that we'll be able to lessen the digital divide in developing countries.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

AR/VR is going mainstream with the Metaverse sector expected to be $5 - $13 trillion industry by 2030. As emerging technologies like XR go mainstream in the advanced economies, we must not leave behind the marginalised communities. Large corporations will focus on rolling out these technologies in advanced economies. We aspire to do the same for those in vulnerable societies through partnerships.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Using the power of art and innovative technology, BackpackX provides
immersive experiences and educational content that inspires children while learning.

The first release from BackpackX is a short VR 360 animated film based on Women Rise characters where children can learn about the impacts of climate change.

Titled "Dreams of Change", the story follows a young girl in Pakistan who is devastated when her village floods. She wants to help but doesn't understand the issue fully. As she drifts off to sleep, we enter her dreamworld and follow her to the
Arctic, Brazil and Jordan to learn about the effects of climate change and the scientists, farmers and activists working to make a difference.

How has it been spreading?

We are partnering with education institutions and non-profits to make the content accessible to children globally. We'll also be supporting our partners with access
to the VR headsets and training.

If I want to try it, what should I do?
