Career Connected STEM Learning Pilot

Fuelling STEM equity through education and career pathways

To support youth aged 14–18 from underrepresented communities in exploring and preparing for STEM-related education and career pathways, a pilot program with 25 modular curriculum units aligned with emerging workforce trends will be designed for implementation across school, community, and housing partner sites in the Greater Toronto Area.

Target group
We aim to transform education by fostering a scalable, equity-driven model where STEM learning is deeply connected to careers. By training educators and engaging families, we will empower thousands of GTA youth from low-income and underrepresented communities with increased confidence and clearer career pathways. Our goal is broad provincial adoption, creating a collaborative ecosystem that aligns classroom learning with real-world workforce priorities.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

This pilot addresses the systemic barriers preventing underrepresented and low-income youth from accessing high-growth STEM careers. While 70% of future jobs require STEM skills, many racialized youth lack the necessary mentorship and resources. By testing an equity-focused, career-connected curriculum for ages 14–18, we can bridge this gap, equipping youth and their support networks for roles in innovative STEM careers.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

The curriculum consists of 25 modular units grounded in real-world applications and aligned with workforce trends such as AI, clean tech, digital innovation, and skilled trades. Content is designed for flexible delivery across school, community, and housing partner sites in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

How has it been spreading?

So far we are leveraging preexisting relationships with community partners, however we are also speaking with potential partners outside of these preexisting relationships.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

While we are still piloting the innovation, we look forward to providing details on how to expand the project once it has been fully tested and rolled out completely.
