About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

I created Changemakers Hub to help African youth access books, mentorship, and guidance on life-changing opportunities. Many young people have talent and ideas but lack direction or resources. This innovation matters because it empowers them to realize their potential and take meaningful steps toward their goals.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

I created Changemakers Hub because I noticed a growing number of teenagers in Kijenge wandering the streets, disengaged from school and feeling invisible. Many had lost confidence in their education due to overcrowded classrooms, substandard teaching, and a lack of resources. Without support, these young people often drifted into risky behaviors, informal jobs, or unhealthy habits, limiting their future opportunities.

This innovation tackles that challenge by providing access to books, mentorship, and guidance on life-changing opportunities. Through our programs, I help young people build confidence, develop critical skills, and discover pathways to education and entrepreneurship they never thought possible. Mentorship allows them to navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and envision a future beyond their immediate circumstances.

Education is the key to breaking cycles of limited opportunity and poverty. By empowering youth academically and personally, Changemakers Hub not only improves learning outcomes but also fosters leadership, resilience, and ambition. It creates a ripple effect: as students grow, they influence their peers and families, strengthening the broader community.

In a place where lack of resources can dim potential, Changemakers Hub gives young people the tools, guidance, and encouragement to thrive. It transforms not just individual lives, but the future of Kijenge, offering hope, skills, and opportunities for future generations.

How has it been spreading?

Changemakers Hub has been spreading organically through both online and community channels. I share educational resources, mentorship guidance, and opportunities on our website and across social media groups, reaching students, parents, and local educators. Word of mouth has been powerful. Students who benefit from our programs invite friends, creating a growing network of engaged learners.

Schools and community centers have begun partnering with us, allowing workshops, book drives, and mentorship sessions to reach more youth. The innovation’s growth is not just about numbers; it’s about impact. Teens who once felt disconnected now participate actively, ask questions, and explore life-changing educational and entrepreneurial opportunities. By showing them practical ways to apply knowledge and discover new pathways, the program inspires both curiosity and ambition. This momentum continues to expand, proving that a combination of accessible resources, mentorship, and guidance can transform not only individual students but also the broader community.

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

Since its inception, Changemakers Hub has evolved beyond simply providing books and resources. I introduced structured mentorship and guidance programs, helping students identify and seize life-changing opportunities, from scholarships to online courses and local internships. I also added interactive workshops that combine education with practical entrepreneurship skills, encouraging teens to think creatively and apply knowledge in real-world contexts.

To reach more students, I expanded our presence online, sharing resources, guidance, and success stories on social media and our website. I began tracking engagement and feedback, allowing us to adapt content to students’ needs and learning styles. These additions ensure that the innovation doesn’t just deliver information but builds confidence, skills, and awareness, empowering youth to navigate educational and professional pathways that previously seemed inaccessible.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

To try Changemakers Hub, the first step is to connect with our community through our website or social media channels, where we share resources, guidance, and mentorship opportunities. Interested students can sign up to access curated educational materials, life-changing opportunities like scholarships, internships, and workshops, and join interactive sessions that combine learning with practical entrepreneurship skills.

Once involved, participants receive guidance tailored to their interests and needs. They can engage in discussions, ask questions, and explore projects that strengthen both academic confidence and real-world skills. Changemakers Hub encourages learners to take small, actionable steps like reading, applying for a program, or starting a mini-project which gradually build knowledge, self-confidence, and independence.

The innovation is designed to be flexible and accessible. Anyone with curiosity and motivation can participate, regardless of background or prior resources. By joining, learners step into a supportive environment that transforms education into empowerment, helping them navigate opportunities that could change their lives and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
