A dramatic improvement in literacy and numeracy as well as the acquisition of creative and critical thinking skills among students. In teachers, we hope to see an increase in job satisfaction, reduction in time spent on lesson plans and improved classroom management.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

We created CholPori to shrink the learning gap, more than 1/3 of 3rd graders can’t read and over 70% of 5th graders lack Maths skills at grade level. The dropout rate at elementary level is an alarming 29%.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

CholPori delivers quality learning content through a low-tech web-app which is by teachers in class to accelerate learning and boost participation. Currently the site contains class 4, 5, 6 lessons for maths, English (aligned to the Bangladesh national curriculum) and over 80 illustrated books in English and Bangla.

In class, CholPori is used by educators through a projector or screen. The materials help the teacher to engage students in discussion, illustrate the theoretical parts of the lesson, and inspire curiosity. We have conducted two long-term pilot studies in under-served public schools, the results of which show a marked improvement in classroom engagement, student and teacher satisfaction and most importantly, academic performance.

In our partner schools, CholPori provides teacher training and coaching, monitoring and support. The platform and the service improve teacher performance. The materials reduce class preparation time and improve the classroom experience.

How has it been spreading?

In 2024 we worked with 25 public and private schools. Teachers of class 4,5,6 used cholpori.com blended learning materials to teach English and Maths. The 2024 CholPori pilot study demonstrated significant positive impacts on student learning, teacher effectiveness, and classroom engagement. Students using CholPori showed notable academic improvements, with an average increase of 16% in English and 19% in Maths, outperforming control classrooms. Teachers benefited from reduced lesson preparation time and improved instructional quality, with 100% expressing willingness to continue using the platform.

Implementation steps

School Onboarding and Teacher Training
CholPori is low - tech solution, requiring only a laptop / computer, a screen, speakers and internet connection. If a school meets that criteria, CholPori enters into a partnership for a minimum of 6 months, during which time the teachers are trained every quarter in blended learning, classroom management, assessment and SEL. From 2025 we are introducing teacher coaching as part of the programme. After the first training, the teachers begin to use CholPori in class.
Observation and learning together
Each teacher will use CholPori in their own unique and interesting ways. We will be observing and learning from them, as well as providing support and tools to improve engagement. CholPori researchers will observe and collect feedback and suggestions.
End of Year Celebration
At the end of the year we celebrate the achievements of the students, teachers and school. A final outcomes report is shared and qualitative data collected through an FGD.
