What if we taught children not just what to think—but how to feel, process, and transform their emotions?
In today’s digital world, students are more connected than ever—yet often emotionally overwhelmed and disconnected from themselves and each other.
I created Freedom Rhythm because it is imperative for students to understand the power of their thoughts and emotions, and how to harness them for their own well-being and the well-being of others. Thoughts and emotions directly impact health and behavior, yet most children are never taught how to manage them for their benefit both short and long term.
Children are highly receptive to engaging, experiential learning. The silks allow the children to learn in a playful way which enhances learning and memory. Because movement and music are a universal language, Freedom Rhythm uses rhythm, intentional movement, and creative expression to help students experience and transform their energy in motion—emotion.
Freedom Rhythm (FR) is an emotion-focused movement method that engages the whole body and brain through rhythm, movement, and creative expression. Grounded in neuroscience, it integrates visualization, bilateral stimulation (BLS), positive affirmations, and movement with flowing silks to help students process and express their emotions.
A typical session begins with brief psychoeducation, helping children connect their thoughts, emotions, and body. This is followed by guided visualization, bilateral stimulation, creative movement, positive self and other affirmations, and choreography. Students also engage in simple mind-body exercises that support right- and left-brain integration—helping them build balance, focus, and emotional regulation.
FR is most commonly embedded within physical education, where movement reinforces social-emotional learning, but it is also used in classrooms, fine arts (dance/theatre), counseling, and after-school programs. This method supports emotional regulation, improves focus and learning, and builds confidence through teamwork and performance-based experiences.
Moreover, teachers report improved student engagement, stress management, and a more positive classroom environment following Freedom Rhythm sessions. SILK is also an acronym for Self-expression; Imagination; Love; & Kindness.
Freedom Rhythm primarily serves students in grades K–12 and is used across classrooms, physical education, counseling, special education, after-school programs, fine arts, and community events. It also supports parents and educators, strengthening entire school communities.
The model has expanded through grassroots implementation and accessible programming. It is currently being implemented within one of the largest school districts in Texas and continues to grow through free offerings provided to students and the community through the leadership of Dr. Tiffany Tajiri and her nonprofit, Flow Freely Foundation.
The Freedom Rhythm School Manual, published in March 2025, formalizes the method and expands its scalability across educational settings. It outlines structured implementation strategies and adaptations for different age groups, learning environments, and neurodevelopmental profiles, ensuring the approach remains accessible, flexible, and effective across diverse populations.
