Our mission is to help future generations to make more sustainable decisions through a playful, relevant, action-based learning experience. By supporting educators, we hope to see children continue to reduce their carbon footprints after the League competitions, develop an eco-focused mindset, and overcome eco-anxiety by having a positive attitude toward creating a sustainable future together.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

72% of greenhouse gas emissions come from lifestyle consumption. While we are most certainly the problem, we can also be part of the solution. We need to nurture an eco-friendly mindset from a young age, build students' agency for climate action that leads to life-long impact. Current environmental education is focused on cognitive knowledge. We help students act for sustainability as they learn.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

We invite children to learn about climate change by taking climate action. The program runs online competitions multiple times a year. Each competition consists of fun-packed activities to encourage children to make eco-friendly choices, which will turn into green-habits, ultimately nurture behavioural change towards sustainability, addressing the root causes of climate change.

Children will be interacting with the award-winning iBiome games, building 12 virtual habitats, earning badges and gaining points by finishing their daily activities (both online and offline), and collaborating with teammates to compete for the top positions in the leaderboards. They track their daily eco-friendly choices and as their lifestyles become more sustainable, they will gain CO2e savings, and see the collective impact they can make with other young green leaders. We have empowered kids to save over 59 tonnes of CO2e. “Your program is highly engaging.” said Ms Long, a grade 5 science teacher in Canada.

How has it been spreading?

Our League program is used by the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), the largest school district in Canada, and teachers from Washington State, New York State, Pennsylvania and California. It empowered thousands of students from North America to reduce 104 tonnes of carbon emission so far.

We’ve received very positive feedback from teachers and students. “Your professional development and League program have the power to attach teachers and students emotionally to a world problem that they can feel strong enough.” said Ms. Schrader, science coordinator from Educational Service District 101, Washington State. 80% of students love tracking CO2 reduction, 88% want to continue to reduce their carbon emissions after competitions. Our goal is to reach 200,000 students worldwide in 3 years.
