School of Educational Leaders

Leading Change and Modern Management of an Educational Institution in Times of Transformation

SOEL is Osvitoria’s flagship program, transforming school principals into strategic leaders for 5 years. Partnering with top business schools, we blend academic depth with management tools. Our mission is to create professional managers who build autonomous schools and drive systemic change nationwide. In 2026, we enhanced the program with global expertise through the University of Cambridge.

Target group
We strive for a systemic transformation of Ukrainian education, where every institution is led by an autonomous visionary leader capable of creating a modern, safe environment for human capital development. Key impacts include: 1) Shift in Management Identity. We aim to move away from the outdated "caretaker" model focused solely on administrative tasks. Our goal is to empower leaders who identify as CEOs and innovators, shaping a growth culture that impacts thousands of students. 2) Transformation of School Environment. We transition school culture from "administrative and survival-based" to "developmental and innovative." This environment is open to modern technology, psychologically safe, and future-oriented. 3) Quality of Educational Outcomes. The ultimate goal is improved student learning. We believe that professional management and a 5–10-year strategic roadmap will prepare children for modern challenges, fostering critical thinking and lifelong learning. 4) Resilience and Systemic Recovery. In the context of war, we see education as the foundation for post-war community recovery. Our innovation ensures that institutions become crisis-resilient, transparent, and capable of attracting resources through partnerships with business

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

We have undergone a long evolutionary journey in improving educational outcomes. Initially, our focus was on the children, then we realized that the teacher is the key. Ultimately, we understood: for a teacher to work effectively, they need the right environment. And that environment is created by one person – the school principal.

In Ukraine and many countries worldwide, for decades, the principal has been perceived merely as a 'facilities manager' or an administrator responsible for roof repairs and bureaucratic reports. We created School of Educational Leaders to shift this paradigm. Our innovation lies in changing the self-awareness of the principal: they must evolve into an Educational Leader, a Visionary, and a CEO.

The problem we address: The administrative, 'survival-mode' school culture is incapable of preparing children for the future. SOEM transforms this culture into one that is developmental and innovative. We believe that if a principal masters strategic tools at the level of top corporate management (such as McKinsey frameworks), they can create an open environment that directly impacts the learning outcomes of thousands of students. We bridge the gap between a business-driven approach and the humanistic values of education

What does your innovation look like in practice?

SOEL is a comprehensive 6-month transformative program designed as a 'Mini-MBA' for educators – a unique concept for the local market. It bridges the gap between traditional administration and modern visionary leadership.

5-Month Intensive Management Phase: Participants master high-level corporate tools, including team management, financial literacy, marketing for schools, and future educational trends. We introduce professional frameworks (e.g., McKinsey strategic tools) to school principals, enabling them to analyze their institutions with the precision of a CEO.

A final residential module at Cambridge focuses on global vision, innovation, and long-term strategy. This international exposure allows leaders to integrate world-class expertise into their local contexts.

The core of the innovation is the Project. Every participant develops and defends a 5-to-10-year strategic development plan for their school. These projects range from launching AI-driven courses and STEM laboratories to complete structural organizational changes.

Over the past 5 years, we have built a cohort of 100+ innovative leaders across public and private sectors. These graduates form a peer-to-peer network, sharing successes that often scale from individual schools to entire regional communities. By shifting the principal's role from a 'caretaker' to an 'innovator,' we create an environment where quality educational outcomes for thousands of students become a reality.

How has it been spreading?

SOEL program has scaled progressively through several strategic stages:
From Local to National: Starting with a pilot group, we have expanded to a nationwide network of 100+ school leaders representing every region of Ukraine – from major metropolitan areas to small rural communities and frontline territories.

Sector Integration: The innovation has successfully bridged the gap between public and private education. Our cohorts consist of principals from state-run lyceums as well as founders of private educational networks.

Organic Growth and Reputation: A significant portion of our applicants join through word-of-mouth recommendations from alumni, demonstrating the high trust and practical value of the program’s methodology.

Global Expansion: In its fifth year, the program achieved a new milestone by establishing a strategic partnership with the University of Cambridge.

This collaboration marks our transition to a globally recognized model for educational leadership

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

Over the past five years, the program has evolved to meet global standards and respond to unprecedented challenges:

Global Strategic Shift: After partnering with KMBS, we scaled globally by engaging the University of Cambridge. The final residency now focuses on Cambridge Leader Standards, strategic planning, and coaching culture.

Adaptive Leadership: Reimagined for a VUCA/BANI world, the curriculum shifted from administration to adaptive leadership, crisis communications, and Business Continuity Plans (BCP-Education), vital for schools during wartime.

Trauma-Informed Approach: We integrated Psychological First Aid (PFA-S), Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and support protocols for students and teachers under chronic stress.

Reconstruction & Fundraising: New modules cover international donor relations, corporate fundraising, and risk-matrix development for school reconstruction projects.

Enhanced Mentorship: We introduced a dedicated ecosystem of webinars, individual mentoring, and peer-to-peer groups to transform project ideas into actionable roadmaps.

Digital Continuity: Components now include EdTech for emergency situations (evacuations, outages) and data-driven management.

These modifications have transformed the program into a tool for preparing change-makers capable of ensuring educational resilience and growth in the most challenging environments.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

To join the School of Educational Leaders, the most essential requirement is a genuine commitment to rebuilding and advancing the Ukrainian educational system. The process follows these steps:

Apply during the intake. Visit the official Osvitoria website to complete the application. We look for proactive principals and leaders who see themselves as drivers of national educational reform.

Share your vision. Shortlisted candidates participate in an interview to discuss their strategic goals for their schools and their readiness to contribute to a wider community of change-makers.
