l created this innovation because refugee students have talents but do not have a platform to showcase them. My goal is to develop this innovation as a way for processing trauma for students. Most students only relies on academics at school, there is the need to introduce this art exhibition program where many extracurriculars would be displayed. I also created this platform because during my academic journey l also encountered many hurdles due to lack of exposure to extracurricular and feel a sense of responsibility for my young fellow refugee not to go through the same challenges.
As a role model to them, my aim is to leave a fingerprint or lasting positive impact in my community. At TWEENS centre, l have witnessed many talents which includes singing, drama, football, volleyball, chess and dancing. The event was launched during holidays and has boosted many youth in Tongogara. This innovation was an inspiaration l got from my former school, USAP Community School and initiated it after finishing my A level. I have seen tremendous growth through this innovation.
Students in Tongogara refugee camp are now active in their academic journey and ready to continue their education with music as a healing tool. Therefore, this innovation was meant to bring more extracurriculars at TWEENS centre. My main concern is to boost the education of youth in Tongogara through providing a conducive environment for student to continue their education without trauma.
My innovation is a student music concert gathering. The event will be normally lauched three times each year, every holidays. The event is carried out in a big music hall at TWEENS so it can accomodate a huge number of students. The hall is prepared with chairs well arranged, there is also a small table for the adjudicators.
Visitors are welcomed for example, camp administrator and other officials. There are ushers on the door leading students and visitors to their destinated places or seats. There is a list of programs or activities on the board and music played by the DJ or MC. The Mc played a significant role of controlling the microphone, welcoming visitors and managing the time for all performance to be done on time. An opening speech is done by one of the commitee member highlighting important concern and thanks-giving to all the students. Then back to Mc for continuing the ceremony.
All activities are done within a specific amount of time and afterwards, gifts and other token of appreciation are given to best students or performers. At the end of the ceremony, a speech for coming and time is done again to everyone who made the event to be possible. Then the adjudicators are given as well presents for garding every performance. This is the overview of the entire event. Lastily, a closing statement from the Mc or DJ.
The innovation has been spreading through social media which includes whatsApp groups, youtube, linkedIn and facebook. In my community, posters has been used to keep every student alert on the dates and venues. Students would be seen under tree shade reciting poems and speeches for the upcoming events.
The art concert has been modified to gift for performers and adjudicators. A set of certificates has to be made for everyone who perfomed. Then special gift for the outstanding performers. And the adjudicators have to be given a present for their effort and fair judging during the event.
For the innovation to be implemented, the organiser had to have a commitee for the event to be planned. Thereafter, a unanimous decision has to be made with duties distributed to each commitee member. Student have to be told on the importance of the event through social media. Dates has to be setted and poster to be placed everywhere for awareness. Anything that aligns with food has to be set and done on time. The event is then launched at a specific time.
