Globally, over 600M children lack basic education proficiency. In Kenya, many don’t attain minimum proficiency in literacy and mathematics. Key challenges include inadequate teacher training, limited monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, disparities in policy implementation, and a lack of research tailored for low-income contexts; hindering child development and educational outcomes.
EIDU has created a software platform accessible on low-cost digital devices and provided to public schools that combines proven educational content with a system for continuous improvement. EIDU sets up and operationalises the program for governments, providing ongoing learning software and support.
We address the need by assessing the academic development of all students digitally, creating a pool of data that partners access to measure and improve impact.
RTC results indicate a 0.52SD uplift in learning outcomes, putting EIDU’s tool among the top 10% of learning interventions in the LMIC context.
EIDU has successfully scaled to 250,000 learners in Kenya, up from 100K in early 2023 and continuing a ~3x annual scaling trajectory since 2020.
EIDU’s main recent achievements have included a positive RCT result, deepened government engagement in Kenya resulting in paying contracts with the government and continuing rapid scale-up, global growth through government backed pilots in Pakistan and Nigeria and new partnerships with Google.org, Founders Pledge, Prevail Fund and others.
EIDU’s vision is to reach hundreds of millions of learners. By 2026, we aim to reach 2M pre-primary grade and 3M primary grade children in Kenya. By 2025, we aim to trial in at least 5 countries with a view to nationwide scale in at least 2 by 2028.
