TicTacLearn (TTL)

place India + 1 more

Making learning accessible to all

India's linguistic and socio-economic diversity challenges access to equitable education. TicTacLearn bridges this by providing 14,000 quality videos and assessments in Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati, Odia, Telugu, and Tamil—reaching over 200 million students. Accessible at no cost, TTL has impacted 50 million students and gained 300 million views on YouTube and DIKSHA since inception in 2019.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

In the course of our work in education, we observed the need for and unavailability of high-quality, affordable digital educational content in Indian languages. TTL was developed to fill this gap in the Indian EdTech landscape by providing digital content in vernacular languages, aligned with the National Curriculum, and available free of cost.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

We launched our entire content library on YouTube (280 mn+ views; 1mn subscribers) to ensure equitable access to the content. Further, TTL content is being disseminated through DIKSHA (Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing) App by the Government of India, which has 10 mn+ TTL views. Moreover, 10 Indian state governments have been using TTL as part of their supplementary digital learning resources, and 8 have been telecasting the content on state TV channels. Given the digital divide present in India, we also provide the entire TTL content library in an offline format via storage devices like pen drives. Our content is pre-loaded in school computers and ICT labs, ensuring inclusivity and equity even in the remotest part of the country. Students access TTL content through schools via teachers, in the form of community-based learning through various volunteer-led programs by different non-profits, or at home as a self-learning resource via TV or the internet.

How has it been spreading?

1) 14 Indian states adopted TTL content in their respective state programs for Grades 1-10
2) TTL has facilitated 5.3mn+ hours of learning on open platforms like YouTube and DIKSHA
3) EdTech Tulna, a leading EdTech evaluation index developed by an eminent technological institute in India, evaluated TTL’s math content. On both, ‘content quality’ and ‘pedagogical alignment’, TTL received the highest rating

Goals: The New Education Policy of India encourages the use of the local language at the primary level. Two state Government bodies have begun the translation of TTL content into languages (Punjabi and Tamil) spoken by 9.33% population in India and TTL is assisting the states. We also plan to work with more states to expand TTL's presence as home-learning/in-school programs.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

1) Anyone can access TTL content on YouTube (English Channel Link: https://youtube.com/@TicTacLearnEnglish )
2) We offer states/NGOs to adopt our solution for their use case by creating customised TTL portals (https://tictaclearn.org/scert/content/ )
3) We can be reached at tictaclearn@centralsquarefoundation.org
